Behavioral Addiction Specifically Internet Gaming Addiction

Abstract. This case study will be based on Behavioral Addiction specifically Internet Gaming Addiction (IGA). Addiction is considered as any object or behavior that has the ability to stimulate a person without using drugs and whenever a habit changes into a responsibility, it can be considered an addiction. According to DSM-5, repetitive behaviors which activate a reward system similar to drug use can also produce some behavioral symptoms that are similar to drug abuse (DSM-5). IGA does not have a diagnostic criterion, but guide lines for further studies were included in section three of the DSM-5; it is also an essential point for researchers to clarify or define processes and/or behaviors that may contribute to the development of†¦show more content†¦Internet addiction can lead to impairment psychologically, socially, and occupationally and it is to be taken as seriously as any other addiction that a person is aligned with. Theorist explains that many of the symptoms in p sychiatry are socially and historically indomitable, and each era provides its own new trend to further distress people; and what comes along with that is the dangerous wide range of symptoms in the addition model, but explains little (Paris, 2013). With that being said, Internet gaming disorder is what is new in this era, and it is causing a lot of distress for people This is a case study of a young African American male; around early to late teens, who came for a session with is elderly mother. He was well dressed, well groomed and healthy, but is communication skills where limited in terms of what he says and the way he says it. He communicates also by using a lot of hand gestures and head movements when speaking and at times the gestures are too exaggerated. His mother is concern about the times he spends on the computer, phone, and too much texting. She also complains about is eating habits; he does not eat very much. He himself stated â€Å"who needs to eat† an d goes on to mock is mom about the healthy food she forces him to eat; such as drinking milk and eating
